Ollie the Owl’s August Update: Animal Adventures, Graduation Goodbyes & Owl Awareness!
Hoo-hoo, hello lovely parents!
It’s Ollie the Owl here, your feathery friend from Eden Nursery. August 4th is International Owl Awareness Day, so I couldn’t miss the chance to flap in and give you a little update on all the exciting things that have been happening at our Aberbeeg setting lately!
A Visit from Some Wild Friends!
Last month, we had some amazing visitors come to nursery. Animal Encounters brought a whole bunch of fascinating creatures for the children to meet up close! From fuzzy friends to scaly surprises, it was an unforgettable day filled with curiosity and courage. The children got to learn all about the animals' habitats, diets, and how to care for them. A fantastic way to build empathy, boost confidence, and spark a love for the natural world. Even I felt a bit starstruck… and I’m an owl!
Oak Room’s Big Day!
It’s been an emotional month too, as we said goodbye to some of our wonderful Oak Room children who are now flying the nest and heading off to full-time school. We celebrated their graduation with huge smiles, proud hearts, and maybe a few happy tears from the grown-ups. We’re so proud of each and every one of them. We know they’ll continue to shine bright on their next big adventure. Go get ‘em, little owlets!
Acorn Room’s Berry Fun!
Meanwhile, the Acorn Room have been very busy exploring a super juicy Pick Your Own strawberry tuff tray! This sweet little activity gave the children a chance to practice their hand-eye coordination, strengthen their little muscles, and learn through sensory play. Plus, who doesn’t love strawberries?
So, Why Do Owls Matter?
Since it’s Owl Awareness Day, here are some fun facts you might not know about me and my owl cousins:
We can rotate our heads almost 270 degrees!
Our feathers are designed for super quiet flying.
Some owls have zebra-like eyelids... cool, right?
At Eden Nursery, we use mascots like me to help children connect with learning in a fun and imaginative way. Whether it’s through stories, songs, or play, animals like owls can help build language skills, emotional understanding, and a love for the world around us.
Get Involved!
We’d love to see how you’re celebrating nature at home. Whether it’s spotting a bird in the garden, reading a bedtime story about animals, or picking strawberries as a family. Share your photos or stories with us at drop-off, or tag us on social media!
Until next time – keep soaring, exploring, and learning.
Hoo-hoo for now!
