Eden Nursery supports families across Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly. Flying Start childcare is being expanded across Wales as part of the Welsh Government’s long-term plan to make funded childcare available to every two-year-old. Local eligibility, start dates and application arrangements can vary by council area.

Flying Start is a Welsh Government early-years programme designed to support young children and their families.

The programme includes funded, high-quality part-time childcare for eligible two-year-olds. In some areas, families may also be able to access additional support, including health visiting, parenting support, and speech, language and communication services.

In Blaenau Gwent, children can access a Flying Start place from the term after their second birthday until they become eligible for a nursery place in the term after their third birthday.

Flying Start in Blaenau Gwent

Blaenau Gwent is expanding Flying Start childcare from September 2026, helping more local families access funded early education and care.

Children who turn two on or before 31 August 2026 may be eligible to begin receiving funded childcare from September, subject to the local authority application process and an available place with an approved provider. If your child turns two later in the year, they may become eligible from the following school term.
